What medicine should be changed after perianal abscess surgery

The dressing change after perianal abscess surgery is mainly to keep the wound clean, reduce the risk of infection and speed up the healing process.

Before talking about dressing changes, we need to understand what perianal abscess is. It is a purulent lesion in the subcutaneous tissue or anal glands around the anus due to bacterial infection. Surgery usually solves this problem by incision and drainage, but postoperative care and dressing changes are crucial because improper treatment may lead to recurrence or the formation of anal fistula.

The key to dressing changes after surgery is to keep the wound clean and dry. When changing the dressing, saline is usually used for cleaning, which is similar to disinfecting the floor and washing away the dirt with clean water. Next, the medical staff may use antibiotic ointment, which is like a protective film on the floor to prevent new bacteria from attaching. Sometimes medicated gauze is used to cover the wound to absorb excess secretions, playing a role similar to kitchen paper towels. The frequency of dressing changes depends on the healing of the wound, and it is usually recommended to change it every few days.

When caring for the wound at home, it is especially important to maintain hygiene. Bacteria and humidity are the biggest enemies of wound healing, just like the enemy in a protracted war, so frequent hand washing and attention to food hygiene are necessary. Avoid sitting for too long to prevent excessive pressure on the wound, as if telling yourself not to let the newly grown grass be trampled. If you have a fever, severe pain, or abnormal color of secretions, it is recommended to consult a doctor immediately. If you need more specialized guidance or care, please seek medical attention immediately to avoid delaying the best time for treatment.
