Nursing Care of Patients with Tibia and Fibula Fractures

Nursing Care of Patients with Tibia and Fibula Fractures

For patients with external fixation, the distal blood transport and sensation must be closely observed, especially the splint of external fixation. Attention must be paid to the tightness of external fixation. If the fixation is too tight, blood vessels and nerves may be damaged. If it is too loose, the protection of the local fracture site will be lost. The care of tibia and fibula fractures mainly includes the following aspects: pay attention to strengthening the nutrition in the diet, avoid picky eating and partial food. Nursing staff need to help patients with appropriate lower limb massage.

What is the most serious complication of a tibia and fibula fracture?

If the patient has a tibia and fibula fracture, complications: First, it is easy to cause osteofascial compartment syndrome, mainly bleeding from the fracture ends of the tibia and fibula and obvious damage to the surrounding soft tissues, which can easily lead to calf muscle contracture in the later stage and affect the function of the calf. The most serious complication of tibia and fibula fracture is compression syndrome. If a tibia and fibula fracture occurs, it is a closed fracture, and the limbs are pressed into the soil or external objects. The injury factors of tibia and fibula fractures may usually cause some local foreign bodies to enter the open injury, which then leads to infection.

Recovery time after tibia and fibula fracture surgery

The recovery time after tibia and fibula fracture surgery is generally 2-3 months, and some patients will have longer recovery time, such as elderly patients, osteoporosis patients with tibia and fibula comminuted fractures, and patients with severe local tissue comminution. The healing time will be extended by 3-6 months, and some patients will also cause fracture nonunion, delayed union, and pseudoarthrosis. The surgical recovery period after tibia and fibula fractures is about half a year. During this period, you can regularly check and photograph the growth of callus. According to normal fracture healing, the callus generally heals within 4 weeks, and then enters the mature callus period of about 2 months. The lower end of the tibia and fibula is prone to injury in daily life and work. Tibia and fibula fractures are the most common type of fractures in the human body and often occur at the same time.
