How to determine whether it is mastitis

How to determine whether it is mastitis?

Mastitis is a common and frequently occurring clinical disease that can occur in women of any age. It is most common in lactating women, usually occurring in the first three months after delivery, and is generally diagnosed based on symptoms and breast examinations. Mastitis in non-lactating women requires not only clinical symptoms and breast examinations, but also mammography and ultrasound examinations to rule out other diseases.

1. Judging by symptoms

1. Local breast pain, redness, and fever;

2. Chills, high fever, and rapid pulse;

3. Swollen and tender lymph nodes on the affected side;

4. If an abscess is formed, there may be a sense of fluctuation locally.

2. Judgment based on auxiliary examination

1. Blood routine test: white blood cell count increased significantly;

2. Ultrasound examination: some patients have abscesses;

3. X-ray or ultrasound examination: rule out other diseases.

3. Treatment of mastitis

Mastitis is easy to treat and most patients can recover quickly. If you find symptoms of mastitis, you need to see a doctor immediately. Timely treatment can prevent the infection from getting worse.

1. Oral antibiotics: to kill bacteria that cause infection. You can also inject antibiotics.

2. Empty the breasts: Empty the breasts through breastfeeding or breast pumping to prevent more bacteria from accumulating in the breasts;

3. Oral analgesics: such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen to relieve pain;

4. If there is a breast abscess, the pus should be drained and oral antibiotics should be taken. In severe cases, intravenous antibiotics are required.

4. Prevention of Mastitis

1. After breastfeeding, drain the milk. If there is congestion, massage or use a breast pump to drain the milk.

2. If the nipple is damaged or cracked, it should be treated promptly;

3. Pay attention to the baby's oral hygiene;

4. Wash both nipples with warm water and soapy water after breastfeeding;

5. If the nipple is inverted, you can squeeze and pull it frequently to correct it.
