What are the symptoms of kidney stones in men

The most common symptoms of kidney stones in men are severe pain in the lower back or abdomen, blood in the urine, and abnormal urination, which may indicate that you need to see a doctor immediately. Symptoms vary depending on the location and size of the stone, and may also be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, urinary tract infection, and even fever.

1. Pain in waist and abdomen: The most typical symptom of kidney stones is sudden severe pain, which usually starts from the waist and radiates to the abdomen, groin and even the inner thigh. This pain is often caused by the movement of stones in the urinary tract, causing obstruction of urine discharge or urinary tract spasm. The pain is usually paroxysmal and extremely intense, also known as "colic". If the pain persists and worsens, you should see a doctor as soon as possible to check for complications.

2. Hematuria: Kidney stones can scratch the urinary tract mucosa, causing blood in the urine or visible pink, red or even brown. If you find that the urine color is abnormal but there are no other symptoms, you still need to pay attention to the possibility of stones, especially small stones hidden in the renal pelvis or ureter, which can easily cause chronic damage. Regular urine routine tests can help detect hematuria early.

3. Abnormal urination: Large stones or kidney stones at a lower location can cause symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain during urination, and even sudden interruption of urine flow. Once the stone completely blocks the urine passage, it may lead to acute urinary retention, which is very likely to cause complications such as hydronephrosis, and you must go to the hospital as soon as possible.

4 Nausea, vomiting and fever: In severe cases, urinary tract obstruction caused by stones may irritate nerves or be complicated by infection, leading to gastrointestinal reactions and high fever in patients. Such conditions indicate that the disease has worsened and may have led to infections of the kidneys and other urinary organs, requiring drug treatment or surgical intervention.

Countermeasures:

Small kidney stones can be expelled faster by drinking 2-3 liters of water a day to increase urine volume or taking lithotripsy drugs; if the pain is severe, you can use antispasmodics and analgesics such as ibuprofen and pentoxyverine under the guidance of a doctor. For larger stones or stones that cannot be expelled naturally, you can choose extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy or ureteroscopy lithotripsy.

In terms of prevention, men are advised to eat less high-oxalate, high-calcium or high-protein foods, exercise more, and check their urine and kidney function regularly.

The symptoms of kidney stones should not be ignored. Once you find signs such as waist and abdominal pain or abnormal urine, you should seek medical attention in time for imaging examinations such as B-ultrasound, CT, etc. Avoid long-term delays that damage kidney health. At the same time, pay attention to preventive measures, maintain healthy living habits, and reduce the risk of recurrence.
