Is Achilles tendinitis painful?

Is Achilles tendinitis painful?

Achilles tendinitis usually causes significant pain, especially when walking or exercising, and is often related to repeated micro-injuries, overuse, aging, or improper movement. To relieve Achilles tendinitis pain, rest, ice, slow exercise, and medication when necessary are recommended.

1. Genetic and physiological factors: Some people are prone to overloading the Achilles tendon due to genetic factors and body structure characteristics such as high or low arches. Ageing will weaken the elasticity of the Achilles tendon and increase the risk of disease. To reduce the impact of such factors, you can consider wearing supportive shoes on a daily basis and warming up thoroughly before exercise.

2. Environmental factors and external influences: Improper exercise posture or sudden increase in exercise volume are common external factors that cause Achilles tendonitis. Standing or walking for a long time, especially wearing inappropriate shoes, will increase the load on the Achilles tendon. It is recommended to reduce the continuous exercise time in daily life and do stretching exercises after exercise to relax the Achilles tendon.

3. Pathological factors and physical injuries: Acute injuries such as Achilles tendon tears, or chronic inflammation such as fibrosis, can lead to Achilles tendonitis. In these cases, medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or naproxen) can effectively relieve inflammation and pain. When necessary, the doctor may recommend bracing or physical therapy to help recovery.

If symptoms continue to worsen, or if you feel severe discomfort during daily activities, it is recommended to seek medical attention in a timely manner to obtain more professional treatment options. By observing and adjusting your own exercise habits, reasonably increasing or decreasing exercise intensity, and choosing appropriate medical care, you can effectively prevent and control the pain and inconvenience caused by Achilles tendinitis.
