How to care after clavicle fracture surgery

How to care after clavicle fracture surgery

After clavicle fracture surgery, the key to care is to promote healing, prevent infection and restore function. Postoperative care includes wound management, pain control, functional exercise and diet conditioning.

1. Wound management

Postoperative wound care is an important part of preventing infection. Keep the wound clean and dry, change the dressing regularly, and avoid contact with water or pollutants. If the wound is found to be red, swollen, oozing, or hot, seek medical attention immediately. Avoid strenuous activities within one week after surgery to prevent the wound from splitting.

2. Pain control

Postoperative pain is common, and doctors usually prescribe painkillers such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, or opioids. Take the medication on time and avoid adjusting the dose on your own. At the same time, ice compresses can relieve local swelling and pain, 15-20 minutes each time, 2-3 times a day.

3. Functional exercise

Rest is the main treatment in the early postoperative period, but appropriate functional exercises should be performed under the guidance of a doctor. In the early stage, slight movements of the fingers and wrists can be performed to avoid excessive force on the shoulder joint. 2-4 weeks after surgery, passive shoulder movements can be gradually increased, such as pendulum movements. After 6 weeks after surgery, active shoulder movements can be performed, such as shoulder lifting and rotation, to help restore joint function.

4. Diet adjustment

The postoperative diet should be based on high-protein, high-calcium and vitamin-rich foods to promote bone healing. It is recommended to consume milk, eggs, fish, soy products, green leafy vegetables and nuts. Avoid consuming too much high-sugar and high-fat foods to avoid affecting healing.

After clavicle fracture surgery, the core of nursing is to follow the doctor's advice and gradually restore function. Scientific wound management, pain control, functional exercise and diet conditioning can effectively promote healing and reduce complications. If abnormal symptoms occur, you should seek medical attention in time to ensure a smooth recovery process.
