Is a breast cyst a nodule?

Breast cysts and breast nodules are two different pathological manifestations. Although they may both appear in the breast, they are not completely the same. It is recommended to consult a doctor in time to get a clear diagnosis when abnormalities are found.

Breast cysts are fluid cystic changes in the breast glands. In simple terms, it is a "small blisters" in the breast; while breast nodules are a solid lesion, manifested as a "hard lump" in the breast. The formation mechanism, texture and health effects of the two are different, and they can be clearly distinguished through ultrasound examination.

Cysts are usually caused by fluid accumulation due to blocked breast ducts. They feel soft, have clear borders, and are usually painless. However, if the cyst is large or grows rapidly, it may cause mild discomfort. Nodules can be caused by a variety of reasons, including fibroadenomas, hyperplasia, or malignant lesions. Most of them are hard to the touch, and some "red flags" such as rapid enlargement, fixed, irregular borders, etc. need special attention.

Whether it is a cyst or a nodule, regular observation is key. If the cyst is small and asymptomatic, it usually does not require treatment, but if it is painful or significantly enlarged, the doctor may take measures such as fluid extraction to relieve pressure. For nodules, the treatment method needs to be determined according to the nature, which may include regular monitoring or biopsy. Regular breast self-examination and ultrasound screening are important measures to prevent breast problems from escalating, and female friends must pay attention to it.
