Symptoms of congenital hydronephrosis in children

Congenital hydronephrosis in children may cause obstruction of urine flow. It is recommended that children who show symptoms see a doctor as soon as possible to clarify the condition.

This is because congenital hydronephrosis refers to the accumulation of fluid in the kidneys due to poor urine drainage at birth, which is usually related to abnormal urinary tract development. Common causes include ureteropelvic junction stenosis, urethral obstruction or reflux. The disease may affect one or both kidneys, and the severity varies from individual to individual.

Symptoms may appear soon after birth, such as difficulty urinating, crying and restlessness, abnormal urine color, or parents finding a lump when touching the child's abdomen. Some children may not have obvious symptoms, but only find fluid accumulation in the kidneys during prenatal ultrasound examinations. If the fluid accumulation is more serious, frequent infections and fever may occur.

Parents should pay attention to their children's urine and behavior. If there is a problem, they should take their children to the hospital for an ultrasound examination as soon as possible to confirm the diagnosis and follow the doctor's advice for treatment. Some mild hydrops can be evaluated through regular observation, while severe cases may require surgical intervention. During this period, maintaining good feeding habits and regular checkups will help monitor the health of your child.
