Infrared therapy for cervical spondylosis

Infrared therapy for cervical spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis can be treated with infrared rays as an auxiliary treatment, but it mainly relieves pain, promotes blood circulation and reduces inflammatory response. It cannot directly remove bone hyperplasia. It is recommended to combine it with other methods for comprehensive treatment to achieve better results.

Infrared therapy accelerates blood flow in local tissues through thermal therapy, relieving discomfort caused by muscle tension and cold stimulation, which has a significant effect on improving the pain and stiffness caused by cervical spondylosis. Common infrared therapy equipment includes infrared lamps, infrared cervical shoulder pads, etc., which are usually operated and used by physical therapists in hospitals or physical therapy institutions. They are efficient and safe. However, it should be noted that the time for infrared therapy is generally controlled at around 20 minutes to avoid excessive use that may cause skin burns. Infrared is only used as an auxiliary way to relieve symptoms. The decreased joint mobility caused by bone spurs and other complications still require further treatment under professional guidance.

In order to better control the symptoms, it is recommended to use infrared therapy while coordinating a healthy lifestyle, such as maintaining an appropriate amount of cervical traction, choosing a pillow of appropriate height, and avoiding sitting for long periods of time; in terms of exercise, swimming or moderate neck stretching exercises can improve cervical flexibility. In dietary adjustments, consuming more foods rich in calcium and vitamin D, such as milk, dark green vegetables, fish, etc., can help maintain bone health. If symptoms persist or worsen, please go to the relevant department of the hospital in time. Imaging examinations and drug treatments such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or hormone injections, or even surgical treatment, may be required.
