What causes thyroid tumors?

The formation of thyroid tumors is related to many factors, including genetics, environmental factors, one's own physical constitution, and changes in the thyroid gland. The causes include genetic risks, abnormal iodine intake, hormone regulation disorders, and chronic thyroiditis.

Thyroid tumors may have a familial tendency. If someone in your immediate family has a thyroid-related disease, the risk of other members of the disease may increase. Abnormal iodine intake in the environment is another important external influencing factor. Both excess and deficiency may interfere with thyroid function, leading to thyroid nodules or even tumors. Radiation exposure is also a known risk factor, especially if the neck area has been exposed to radiotherapy or nuclear radiation contamination. Abnormal hormone levels in the body, such as excessive thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) stimulation, may induce thyroid cell hyperplasia. Chronic inflammatory diseases such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis may also accelerate the development of thyroid tumors. In some cases, trauma or surgical stimulation can also disturb thyroid tissue, thereby inducing tumor formation.

Prevention of thyroid tumors needs to start with daily diet and lifestyle habits. Controlling iodine intake in food can avoid unnecessary stimulation of thyroid function. It can be adjusted by eating balanced iodized salt and seafood, but not excessive intake. At the same time, avoid exposure to high-radiation environments, especially occupational-related radiation exposure, and protective measures should be taken. Regular thyroid function and B-ultrasound examinations are important means of detecting problems early. If there is a family history or other high-risk factors, you should be vigilant. When abnormal symptoms such as neck lumps, difficulty swallowing, or hoarseness occur, you should seek medical evaluation as soon as possible, make a clear diagnosis, and take targeted treatment.
