How to deal with ruptured thoracic aortic aneurysm and how to care for it

What should I do if a thoracic aortic aneurysm ruptures? How should I care for it?

What to do if a thoracic aortic aneurysm ruptures?

Common symptoms of thoracic aorta rupture include pain behind the sternum or between the shoulder blades. 31%-43% of the injured may also experience upper limb hypertension and a significantly weakened pulse amplitude in the lower limbs while suffering from internal bleeding.

1. On-site rescue. The risk of immediate death due to acute massive bleeding caused by thoracic aorta rupture is very high. The most important thing on the scene is to take effective measures to prevent the casualty from dying due to excessive bleeding. After emergency treatment on the scene, if the casualty's airway is unobstructed and shock is basically corrected, he should be immediately escorted to the hospital for rescue. During the transfer, the casualty should be kept in a supine position, kept warm, with the head tilted to one side, and blood volume should be replenished. Once cardiac arrest occurs, the vehicle should be stopped immediately and resuscitation and rescue should be performed on the spot. Do not continue to transfer without rescue, thereby losing the opportunity for treatment.

2. Preparation before surgery It is reported that patients with thoracic aortic rupture who arrive at the emergency room can be divided into three categories:

1 Severe hemorrhagic shock is already in a dying state and requires emergency thoracotomy to stop bleeding and resuscitation.

2 After emergency resuscitation, the condition is still unstable and there is still heavy bleeding, so emergency thoracotomy is required.

3 After resuscitation, the condition is basically stable, and some necessary examinations can be performed to confirm the diagnosis and arrange surgery as soon as possible. Temporary hemostasis still has the risk of delayed massive bleeding and death.

How to care for an aneurysm?

After aortic aneurysm surgery, patients should pay close attention to whether there are still infected lesions, observe whether there are persistent fever symptoms, take medication regularly under the guidance of a doctor, have regular checkups, pay attention to daily maintenance, quit smoking and drinking, and pay attention to controlling blood pressure and blood lipid levels to prevent aortic dilatation after surgery and promote the patient's health recovery. According to the results of intraoperative bacterial culture and drug sensitivity tests, it is necessary to adhere to long-term and targeted anti-infection treatment after surgery. Appropriate nutritional supplements and enhanced resistance can also help promote recovery and improve quality of life.
