Will urinary stones definitely lead to hydronephrosis?

The incidence of urinary stones is very high and is related to metabolic disorders, bacterial infections, improper diet, urinary tract malformations, etc. Stones can appear anywhere in the kidneys, bladder, and urethra, and can cause different symptoms and signs depending on the size and number. If the stone is relatively large, the patient needs to undergo surgery, and a detailed examination will be performed before the operation to determine the specific location of the stone. So will urinary stones definitely cause hydronephrosis?

1. Urinary stones may cause hydronephrosis. The symptoms of urinary stones are related to the location and size of the stones. If stones appear in the urinary tract, especially in the upper urinary tract, that is, kidney stones, they will block the renal outlet, causing urinary tract obstruction and leading to hydronephrosis. If the obstruction is not eliminated in time, hydronephrosis will continue to worsen, increasing the pressure in the renal pelvis, causing renal parenchyma atrophy, impaired renal function, and in severe cases leading to uremia. The formation of hydronephrosis may also be caused by diseases such as renal pelvic tumors and ureteral tumors, which can be judged by imaging examinations.

2. Other symptoms of urinary stones. In addition to hydronephrosis, patients will also experience severe low back pain, hematuria, dysuria and other symptoms. If bacterial infection occurs, the patient will discharge pyuria and have symptoms of systemic poisoning, such as high fever, chills, and general fatigue. If the stone is small, strenuous activities can cause colic, and the pain can radiate to the lower abdomen and perineum.

Urinary stones may cause hydronephrosis, but it does not necessarily lead to hydronephrosis, which is related to the location of the stones. There are many types of urinary stones. Once symptoms such as renal colic, infection, high fever, and anuria occur, first aid, antispasmodic and analgesic treatment should be performed, and antibiotics should be used to control the infection. If uremia has already occurred, dialysis treatment is required. Hydronephrosis is a manifestation of urinary tract obstruction. Most patients need to end surgery to relieve the obstruction, and actively prevent and treat infection after surgery. To avoid the recurrence of stones, patients should strictly control their diet and maintain a low-purine diet.
