Acute cystitis treated with traditional Chinese and western medicine

What are the treatments for acute cystitis?

Western medicine treatment of acute cystitis

1. Rest in bed, drink plenty of water, avoid irritating foods, and take hot water baths or pubic hot compresses to improve local blood circulation and relieve symptoms. Oral sodium bicarbonate or potassium citrate alkaline drugs can alkalinize urine and reduce irritation to the urinary tract. Flavonoid ester salts of urinary tract medicine, belladonna, and atropine can relieve bladder spasms.

2. Choose appropriate antimicrobial drugs according to the genus of pathogenic bacteria. Before the drug sensitivity results are available, you can choose sulfamethoxazole, cephalosporins, and quinolones. After treatment, the condition generally improves rapidly, pus cells in the urine disappear, and cell culture turns negative. Short-term 3-day therapy should be used as much as possible to avoid unnecessary long-term medication to avoid drug resistance or increase side effects, but measures to prevent recurrence should be strengthened. If the symptoms do not disappear, pus cells in the urine continue to exist, and the culture is still positive, bacterial resistance and infection inducements should be considered, and more appropriate antimicrobial drugs should be adjusted in time, and the application time should be extended in order to achieve complete cure.

3. Postmenopausal women often have urinary tract infections and are prone to re-infection. The lack of estrogen causes a decrease in lactobacilli in the vagina and an increase in the reproduction of pathogenic bacteria, which is an important factor in infection. Estrogen replacement therapy can maintain a normal vaginal environment, increase lactobacilli and eliminate pathogenic bacteria, which can reduce the occurrence of urinary tract infections.

Acute cystitis treatment with traditional Chinese medicine

The bladder is invaded by bacteria and produces acute inflammation. Bacterial infection leads to abnormal urination of the bladder. The urinary tract obstruction below the bladder neck causes urination disorder, and the flushing effect of urine is lost, resulting in residual urine, which becomes a good culture medium for bacterial growth. Bacteria continue to grow and reproduce, and under the culture of residual urine, they always produce pathological stimulation to the bladder and cause cystitis.

At the same time, ascending infection caused by low immunity and abnormal urination caused by bacterial infection of the tissues around the bladder also lead to an increase in residual urine in the bladder, which becomes the reason for the recurrence of cystitis and the difficulty in curing the infection.
