What are the symptoms of gallstones? Pain when taking a deep breath

One of the symptoms of gallstones is pain when taking a deep breath, which may be the result of gallstones causing cholecystitis or bile duct obstruction. The pain is usually located in the right upper abdomen, sometimes radiating to the shoulder blade or back, accompanied by nausea, vomiting or indigestion.

Gallstones are formed by the deposition of substances such as cholesterol, bile salts, and calcium salts in bile. Small stones may be asymptomatic, but when stones block the gallbladder or bile ducts, they can cause acute symptoms. Pain during deep inspiration is usually related to compression of the gallbladder, especially in the right upper abdominal area. Deep breathing can cause the diaphragm to move and irritate the inflamed area, which can worsen the pain.

The pain caused by gallstones is usually intermittent and lasts from a few minutes to a few hours. The pain often occurs after eating high-fat foods, because eating stimulates the gallbladder to contract and push bile out. If the stones are large or cause cholecystitis, the pain may last longer and be accompanied by symptoms such as fever, chills, and jaundice, indicating the risk of infection or bile duct obstruction.

In order to prevent and manage gallstone problems, it is recommended to maintain a balanced diet, avoid consuming too much high-fat, high-cholesterol food; exercise regularly, control weight; and eat more fiber-rich foods such as vegetables and whole grains. If the pain recurs or is accompanied by severe symptoms, you should see a doctor as soon as possible, and use imaging tests such as B-ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis, and take surgery or other treatment measures if necessary.
