Where does gallstones hurt?

Gallstones usually cause pain in the right upper abdomen that may radiate to the back or under the right shoulder blade. Gallstones are caused by excess cholesterol or bile pigments in the bile, which form solid particles that block the gallbladder or bile ducts. The pain of gallstones is often worse after eating a high-fat meal because this stimulates the gallbladder to contract in an attempt to expel bile.

In addition to pain, symptoms of gallstones may include nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and jaundice. The pain is usually intermittent and may last from a few minutes to a few hours. In some cases, gallstones may have no obvious symptoms, which is called "asymptomatic gallstones."

For the treatment of gallstones, mild symptoms can be relieved by dietary adjustments, such as reducing the intake of high-fat foods and increasing fiber intake. Severe cases may require surgical treatment, such as cholecystectomy. If symptoms such as severe pain, fever or jaundice occur, you should seek medical attention in time to prevent complications.

In daily life, maintaining a healthy diet and proper exercise can help prevent the formation of gallstones. Regular physical examinations can also help detect potential problems early and take appropriate measures. For people with a family history of gallstones or other risk factors, they should pay more attention to lifestyle adjustments.
