What are the reactions of gallstones?

The main reactions of gallstones include right upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and jaundice. If these symptoms occur, you should see a doctor as soon as possible to prevent the condition from getting worse. The symptoms of gallstones often vary depending on their size and location. The most typical symptom is paroxysmal right upper abdominal pain, which often occurs after eating greasy food, and the pain can radiate to the back or right shoulder blade area. The pain usually lasts from a few minutes to a few hours, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, gallstones may also cause complications such as acute cholecystitis, cholangitis and pancreatitis, which can aggravate the patient's discomfort and even endanger his life.

There are two main reasons why gallstones cause symptoms: one is mechanical obstruction, where stones get stuck in the gallbladder or bile duct, causing poor bile flow, irritating the gallbladder wall or bile duct, and causing pain; the other is inflammatory response, where bile stasis further leads to inflammation of the gallbladder or bile duct, inflammatory response, and even infection. For diagnosis, imaging examinations such as ultrasound, CT, and MRI are commonly used methods and can effectively detect gallstones and their complications.

Treatments for gallstones include non-surgical and surgical treatments. Non-surgical treatments such as drug lithotripsy and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy are suitable for patients with mild symptoms and small stones. Surgical treatments include cholecystectomy and choledochoscopy, which are usually used for patients with obvious symptoms or complications. In terms of diet, patients should reduce the intake of high-fat and high-cholesterol foods, eat more fiber-rich vegetables and fruits, and avoid eating greasy foods to reduce the burden on the gallbladder. Moderate exercise can also help promote bile flow and prevent stone formation.

Once gallstones are diagnosed, an individualized treatment plan should be developed based on the doctor's advice. Pay attention to maintaining a good diet and lifestyle to prevent the occurrence and recurrence of gallstones. Regular physical examinations can help detect gallstones early so that they can be treated in time. It is hoped that through scientific treatment and careful conditioning, the quality of life can be improved and the pain can be relieved.
