Treatment of osteomyelitis

Treatment of osteomyelitis

Osteomyelitis refers to an inflammatory disease caused by suppurative bacteria infecting the bone marrow, cortical bone and periosteum. Most cases are caused by blood-borne causes, but can also be caused by trauma or surgical infections. Its treatment mainly involves antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatments and the need for lesion removal. If it is an open wound, local removal of dead bone, bone grafting, and repeated flushing are the most commonly used treatment methods. Specifically, it includes puncture, aspiration, fenestration and drainage flow, as well as dead bone removal and amputation surgery when necessary.

What are the commonly used drugs for osteomyelitis?

Osteomyelitis is a bone infection and destruction, mostly caused by anaerobic and aerobic bacteria, and sometimes osteomyelitis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and fungi. Osteomyelitis is common in long bones. If diabetic foot is injured and infected, it is also troublesome. Osteomyelitis can be divided into blood-borne or osteomyelitis caused by trauma. Blood-borne transmission is more common in adolescents, especially acute osteomyelitis, with obvious symptoms of acute poisoning such as high fever and chills. The main treatment method is antibiotic treatment, such as cephalosporins, levofloxacin and other symptomatic supportive treatment. Mainly based on the culture and drug sensitivity test of the bacteria, relatively sensitive drug treatment is adopted, so that the virus and bacteria can be fully killed.

What to eat for osteomyelitis

After osteomyelitis, oral antibiotics are needed for anti-infection treatment, and the course of treatment is six weeks. Current scientific research shows that oral antibiotics and intravenous antibiotics have similar effects and fewer side effects. However, after osteomyelitis, it is necessary to routinely take secretions from the inflammatory lesions for bacterial culture, and then perform drug sensitivity tests based on the results of bacterial culture. Then, according to the results of drug sensitivity tests, reasonable and effective antibiotics are selected for anti-infection treatment. At the same time, osteomyelitis also requires thorough debridement to remove the infected lesions.
