17-year-old with gallbladder polyps

The appearance of gallbladder polyps at the age of 17 may be related to factors such as genetics, eating habits, and metabolic abnormalities. Ultrasound examination is required to confirm the diagnosis, and observation, drug treatment, or surgical resection can be selected according to the size of the polyps.

1. Causes of gallbladder polyps

Genetic factors play an important role in the occurrence of gallbladder polyps. People with a family history of gallbladder disease have a higher risk of the disease. Dietary habits are also a key factor. Long-term high-fat, high-cholesterol diet may increase the cholesterol content in bile and promote the formation of polyps. Metabolic abnormalities such as obesity and diabetes may also lead to gallbladder dysfunction, which in turn causes polyps. Gallbladder inflammation or bile stasis may also be a cause.

2. Diagnosis and treatment of gallbladder polyps

The diagnosis of gallbladder polyps mainly relies on ultrasound examination, which can determine the size, number and morphology of the polyps. For polyps with a diameter of less than 10 mm, regular observation is usually recommended, with a review every 6-12 months. In terms of drug treatment, ursodeoxycholic acid can be used to promote bile excretion and reduce cholesterol deposition; you can also try Chinese medicine such as Artemisia Capillaris Decoction to regulate liver and gallbladder function. If the diameter of the polyp exceeds 10 mm or increases rapidly, surgical resection may need to be considered. Common surgical methods include laparoscopic cholecystectomy, open cholecystectomy and minimally invasive gallbladder preservation and lithotomy.

3. Lifestyle adjustment and prevention

In terms of diet, you should reduce the intake of high-fat and high-cholesterol foods, such as fried foods and animal offal, and eat more fiber-rich foods such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Maintaining a regular schedule, avoiding staying up late, and exercising moderately, such as walking and yoga, can help improve metabolic function. Regular physical examinations are particularly important, especially for people with a family history of gallbladder disease, who should be screened as early as possible.

Although it is uncommon for a 17-year-old to have gallbladder polyps, it should be taken seriously. Scientific diagnosis, reasonable treatment and lifestyle adjustments can effectively control the progression of the disease and reduce the risk of complications. It is recommended that patients and their families maintain communication with doctors, develop personalized treatment plans, and ensure that health management is in place.
