How to deal with osteofasciitis

Osteofasciitis is a common soft tissue inflammation that is usually caused by overuse, poor posture or trauma, and manifests as localized pain, stiffness and limited movement. Treatment of osteofasciitis requires a combination of rest, physical therapy, medication and lifestyle adjustments.

1. Rest and protection

During the acute phase of osteofasciitis, you should avoid overuse of the affected area, reduce the amount of activity, and use protective gear or bandages to fix it when necessary to prevent further injury. Rest is the basis for relieving inflammation and pain, but long-term complete immobilization may lead to muscle atrophy, so moderate activity is required.

2. Physical therapy

Physical therapy is an important means of relieving osteofasciitis. Hot compresses can promote blood circulation and relieve muscle tension; cold compresses are suitable for the acute stage to reduce swelling and pain. Ultrasound therapy, electrotherapy and massage can also effectively improve symptoms. Appropriate stretching and strengthening exercises can help restore the flexibility of muscles and fascia.

3. Drug treatment

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and diclofenac can relieve pain and inflammation, but they must be used under doctor's orders and should not be taken for a long time. Topical ointments such as Voltaren and capsaicin patches can also relieve symptoms. For intractable pain, doctors may recommend local injections of corticosteroids.

4. Lifestyle Adjustment

Improve your daily posture and avoid maintaining the same posture for a long time, especially when sitting or standing for a long time. Choose suitable shoes and seats to reduce the pressure on the fascia. In terms of diet, increase foods rich in vitamins C, D and calcium, such as citrus fruits, fish and dairy products, which can help promote tissue repair.

5. Sports rehabilitation

Moderate exercise can help restore fascia function. Low-intensity exercise such as swimming, yoga and Pilates are recommended, which can strengthen the core muscles and improve body coordination. Avoid high-intensity exercise or sudden increase in exercise to avoid aggravating symptoms.

Treatment of osteofasciitis requires a combination of multiple approaches, with early intervention and proper care being key. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention promptly to rule out other underlying diseases. Through scientific treatment and lifestyle adjustments, most patients can recover and return to normal life.
