What are the dangers of female cystitis

If female cystitis is not treated in time, it may cause worsening of urinary tract infection, chronic cystitis, pyelonephritis and even kidney damage, which requires attention and early intervention.

Cystitis can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain during urination. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by hematuria or tenderness in the lower abdomen. This disease is mostly caused by bacterial infection. Women are more susceptible to infection due to their shorter urethra and anatomical structure. If the inflammation is confined to the bladder, there are usually no serious consequences after timely treatment; but if the bacteria ascend, it may affect the ureters and kidneys, causing pyelonephritis, resulting in symptoms such as fever, back pain, chills, and even kidney damage. Recurrent cystitis can develop into chronic inflammation, which increases the difficulty of treatment and significantly reduces the quality of life. Long-term inflammatory stimulation may even have the possibility of malignant transformation.

In order to avoid harm, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible when symptoms of cystitis appear, and to receive antimicrobial treatment according to the doctor's orders, such as fluoroquinolones, cephalosporins or sulfonamides, but attention should be paid to the use of drugs to avoid drug resistance. Drinking more water, developing good hygiene habits, and urinating regularly can effectively prevent attacks. In the acute phase, you can also increase the acidic environment of urine by consuming foods rich in vitamin C, such as lemons and oranges, to inhibit bacterial growth. For patients with chronic cystitis whose quality of life is affected, physical therapy such as bladder instillation or medication to regulate inflammatory responses can also be tried. If there are multiple acute attacks or other diseases, further examination is also required to rule out potential pathological factors.
