What does a breast cyst look like?

Breast cysts usually appear as soft, smooth, round or oval lumps with clear borders. They may move when touched and are mostly filled with fluid. This type of cyst is mostly benign, but if it is painful, enlarged or hardened, you should seek medical attention in time to rule out the possibility of malignancy.

Breast cysts are cystic structures formed when the breast alveoli or ducts become blocked, and are generally affected by fluctuations in estrogen levels. The size of the cyst can range from a few millimeters to several centimeters, and is usually more obvious before menstruation, and may be accompanied by breast pain or tenderness. The morphology of the cyst can be determined by breast ultrasound. In imaging manifestations, it often appears as a round or oval low-echo area with clear boundaries and a fluid appearance inside. If the contents of the cyst become infected or otherwise changed, its appearance and feel may become irregular, and even form a nodule over time.

In daily care, you can appropriately reduce dairy products and high-salt diets, balance your endocrine system, and especially adjust your diet and lifestyle before your period. If the cyst continues to grow or is accompanied by pain or inflammation, you should seek medical attention in a timely manner. The doctor may use fine needle puncture to extract fluid, take hormone adjustment drugs, or perform surgical removal according to the condition. Avoid blindly touching the lump, and regular self-examination and screening will help manage breast health.
