How long does it take to be hospitalized for breast cyst surgery?

Whether breast cyst surgery requires hospitalization and how long it will take usually depends on the nature of the cyst, the surgical method, and the individual's recovery status. Generally speaking, small benign cysts do not require surgery and only require regular observation; if surgery is required, it is usually a day surgery and the patient can return home on the same day, while complex cases may require hospitalization for 2 to 3 days.

Breast cysts are a common breast disease, usually manifested as soft or elastic lumps in the breast. Many cysts are benign and have no obvious symptoms. They are only discovered accidentally during physical examinations or imaging examinations. If the cyst is large, calcified, repeatedly infected, or continues to grow, the doctor will consider surgical removal.

Surgical treatment is mainly divided into minimally invasive aspiration treatment and traditional surgical resection. If it is a minimally invasive surgery, the wound is small, the recovery is fast, and long-term hospitalization is not required. Traditional surgery may require partial removal of the tissue around the cyst, and after the operation, a short-term hospitalization of two or three days may be required for observation due to wound care and other reasons.

Before deciding whether to be hospitalized, patients need to undergo adequate preoperative examinations, such as breast ultrasound, color Doppler ultrasound or mammography, to classify and evaluate the nature of the cyst. If the doctor recommends surgery, the patient needs to choose a suitable medical institution based on their health status. If they feel uncomfortable or the cyst changes significantly, they must consult a doctor as soon as possible, and symptomatic treatment is preferred.
