Is breast cyst puncture harmful?

Is breast cyst puncture harmful?

Breast cyst puncture usually has no obvious harm, but it needs to be performed under the operation of a professional doctor. Most breast cysts are benign, and the main purpose of puncture is to confirm the diagnosis or relieve the discomfort caused by the cyst.

Breast cysts are a common benign breast lesion, usually manifested as a cystic mass in the breast, which may be accompanied by mild pain or abnormal sensation to touch. Its formation is mainly due to the obstruction of the ducts of the mammary lobules, resulting in fluid retention and cyst formation. Small cysts are mostly asymptomatic, while larger cysts may cause breast tenderness or pressure.

Breast cyst puncture is a common examination and treatment method. A fine needle is used to directly penetrate the cyst to suck out the cystic fluid to relieve distension and pain, or to obtain the cystic fluid for pathological analysis. If the cystic fluid is clear or yellow-green, it generally indicates benign; if the cystic fluid is abnormal or contains blood, further examination may be required. However, many people worry that puncture will lead to infection, cyst recurrence and other problems. In fact, complications of operations under sterile conditions are very rare, but cysts may indeed form again due to their own mechanisms, which has little to do with puncture.

In order to minimize potential risks, it is recommended to closely observe the condition of the breast after puncture and pay attention to a healthy lifestyle, such as keeping the breasts clean, wearing comfortable underwear, and avoiding a high-fat diet. If the cyst appears multiple times or is accompanied by other abnormal symptoms, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to further clarify the situation through ultrasound examination or other means.
