What are the symptoms of adrenal tumors?

Treatment for adrenal tumors includes surgical resection, drug therapy, and radiotherapy. Symptoms are usually caused by abnormal hormone secretion or tumor compression. Adrenal tumors may be asymptomatic or manifest as high blood pressure, obesity, facial flushing, etc. The specific symptoms depend on the type of tumor and hormone secretion.

1. Hypertension is one of the common symptoms of adrenal tumors, especially in patients with pheochromocytoma. Due to excessive catecholamine secretion by the tumor, blood pressure rises sharply, which may be accompanied by headaches, palpitations and sweating. In terms of treatment, blood pressure needs to be controlled by drugs, such as beta receptor blockers and calcium channel blockers, and surgical removal of the tumor is performed when necessary.

2. Obesity and weight gain may be a manifestation of Cushing's syndrome, which is caused by excessive secretion of cortisol by adrenal cortical tumors. Patients may have symptoms such as moon face, buffalo shoulders, and purple skin lines. Treatments include surgical removal of the tumor or the use of drugs such as metyrapone to inhibit cortisol synthesis.

3. Facial flushing and excessive sweating are common in pheochromocytoma. Due to excessive secretion of catecholamines, patients may experience paroxysmal flushing and excessive sweating, accompanied by anxiety and palpitations. Treatment requires surgical removal of the tumor, and the use of alpha-blockers and beta-blockers to control symptoms before surgery. Blood pressure and heart rate need to be closely monitored after surgery.

The symptoms and treatment of adrenal tumors should be personalized according to the nature of the tumor and the specific conditions of the patient. Early diagnosis and treatment are the key to improving prognosis.
