Causes and clinical manifestations of gallstones

Causes and clinical manifestations of gallstones

Gallstones are hard masses of material in the gallbladder or bile ducts, mainly composed of cholesterol or bile pigment.

There are several main causes of gallstones: an unreasonable diet is a common cause. A diet high in fat, high in cholesterol, and low in fiber can easily lead to excess cholesterol, which increases the concentration in bile and forms stones. Obesity also increases the secretion of cholesterol, especially those with abdominal obesity are more susceptible to gallstones. Rapid weight loss and excessive dieting can also concentrate bile and promote the formation of stones.

In terms of clinical manifestations, gallstones can cause patients to feel severe pain in the right upper abdomen. The pain usually occurs suddenly, lasts for several minutes to several hours, and even radiates to the right shoulder and back. Fullness after meals, nausea and vomiting are also common symptoms. If gallstones block the bile duct, it may cause jaundice, yellowing of the patient's skin and whites of the eyes, fever, and persistent abdominal pain.

For patients who are troubled by gallstones, adjusting their eating habits is the first priority. They should increase their intake of green leafy vegetables and fruits, avoid high-cholesterol and high-fat foods, and reduce the burden on the gallbladder. Moderate exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can also prevent the occurrence of gallstones. If more serious symptoms occur or relapses occur frequently, further treatment should be taken under the guidance of a professional doctor.

Controlling gallstones through a reasonable lifestyle is an effective and necessary means, which can not only improve the quality of daily life, but also help reduce the frequency of attacks. I hope that every friend who is troubled by gallstones can achieve a healthy and beautiful life through scientific conditioning and prevention.
