What are the symptoms of osteoporosis in women and what medicine should they take?

Symptoms of osteoporosis in women include back pain, decreased height, and easy fractures. Treatment drugs include calcium, vitamin D, bisphosphonates, etc. Osteoporosis is a decrease in bone strength due to decreased bone mass and destruction of bone microstructure. Women are more susceptible to the disease due to changes in hormone levels. Back pain is a common symptom, usually caused by vertebral compression fractures; decreased height is due to spinal deformation caused by vertebral compression; easy fractures are manifested as fractures under slight external force, which are common in the wrist, hip and spine.

1. Back pain: Osteoporosis causes vertebral compression fractures, which cause persistent pain, especially when moving or bearing weight. Treatment includes the use of analgesics such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, combined with physical therapy such as hot compresses and massage to relieve pain.

2. Shortening of height: Vertebral compression fractures lead to spinal deformity and gradual shortening of height. Prevention and treatment measures include calcium and vitamin D supplementation to enhance bone density, as well as moderate spinal stretching exercises such as yoga and Pilates to improve posture.

3. Easy fracture: Osteoporosis makes bones fragile, and even slight external force can cause fractures. Bisphosphonates such as alendronate can be used for drug treatment to inhibit bone resorption and increase bone density. At the same time, moderate weight-bearing exercise such as walking and strength training is recommended to enhance bone strength.

The prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in women requires a combination of medication, diet and exercise, regular bone density checks, timely adjustment of treatment plans, effective control of disease progression and improved quality of life.
