Causes of perianal abscess

Causes of perianal abscess

Perianal abscess, this word sounds a little strange, but it is not uncommon in life. It is usually caused by bacterial infection and occurs in the soft tissue around the anus. Such infection can cause pain, redness, swelling, and even fever, making people restless. So, what factors may cause perianal abscess?

1. Anal gland infection: The most common cause of perianal abscess is infection of the anal glands. Anal glands are small glands located near the anus. When bacteria enter these glands, they may cause infection and form abscesses. Usually, this infection may be related to decreased immunity, such as during a cold or long-term fatigue, the body's resistance will be weakened.

2. Intestinal diseases: Certain intestinal diseases, such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, may also increase the risk of perianal abscesses. These diseases can cause chronic inflammation of the intestines, making the intestinal wall fragile and more susceptible to bacterial invasion. For patients with these chronic diseases, regular checkups and good daily care are very important.

3. Bad hygiene habits: Bad hygiene habits are also a potential cause of perianal abscesses. If the area around the anus is not cleaned properly, bacteria will breed in this area, increasing the risk of infection. Maintaining good personal hygiene, especially using warm water to wash the anal area after going to the toilet, can effectively reduce the chance of disease.

4. Trauma or surgery: Trauma or surgery near the anus may also cause perianal abscesses. If the wound after surgery is not properly treated, bacteria may take the opportunity to enter and cause infection. During postoperative care, following the doctor's advice and keeping the wound clean and dry is the key to preventing infection.

Although perianal abscesses may sound disturbing, by understanding their causes, we can take appropriate preventive measures. Maintaining good hygiene habits, paying attention to intestinal health, and taking special care when the body's immunity is low are all effective strategies. If related symptoms occur, it is wisest to seek medical attention in time. Through these methods, I hope everyone can stay away from the troubles of perianal abscesses and maintain a healthy life.
