Breast cysts and breast nodules

Breast cysts and breast nodules

Breast cysts and breast nodules are usually two different breast lesions, which need to be clearly distinguished through imaging examinations and pathological diagnosis. Breast cysts are usually benign fluid cysts that are not associated with the risk of cancer; breast nodules may be a manifestation of hyperplasia, fibroids or cancerous lesions, and their nature needs to be evaluated to determine the treatment plan.

Breast cysts are a relatively common benign lesion, which are mostly caused by fluctuations in hormone levels, bad living habits or degenerative changes in the breast. They usually manifest as local lumps in one or both breasts, which may change with the menstrual cycle and are painful. Breast nodules are uneven proliferations of breast tissue and have a variety of possible causes, including benign lesions such as breast hyperplasia and breast fibroadenomas, or malignant lesions such as breast cancer. They need to be diagnosed through imaging methods such as ultrasound and mammography, as well as puncture biopsy when necessary. Unlike cysts, breast nodules are often hard in texture, irregular in surface, and may have decreased mobility. Particular attention should be paid to nodules that grow rapidly or do not change with the cycle.

For the treatment of breast cysts, simple cysts generally do not require treatment and only require regular follow-up. However, patients with significant symptoms or large cysts may choose to undergo cyst puncture and fluid extraction or surgical removal. The treatment of breast nodules depends on the pathological nature. Benign nodules such as fibroadenomas can be continuously observed or surgically removed; malignant nodules such as breast cancer may require surgical removal (such as breast-conserving or total mastectomy), combined with radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or targeted therapy to improve the cure rate. In any case, early detection and diagnosis are the key to preventing the disease from worsening. To prevent breast health problems, patients should maintain a regular schedule, a balanced diet, avoid excessive obesity and long-term high stress, perform regular breast self-examinations and imaging examinations, and if they have symptoms such as breast lumps and pain, they should seek medical attention in a timely manner to clarify the diagnosis and avoid delays in the disease.
