What to do if you have breast cysts during lactation

What to do if you have breast cysts during lactation

Breast cysts during lactation are usually benign, but if they are accompanied by severe pain, persistent redness or swelling, or other abnormal symptoms, please seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Breast cysts are actually a manifestation of breast hyperplasia, which is common in breastfeeding women. These cysts are usually filled with fluid and may feel like soft little water bags, sometimes accompanied by tenderness or swelling. It may be caused by blocked milk ducts or may be related to hormone fluctuations.

If the cyst is small and there is no obvious discomfort, you can try warm towels to promote local blood circulation, or use a more comfortable nursing bra to relieve breast pressure. Regular manual breast examination or adjusting the feeding posture during breastfeeding to avoid milk accumulation is also an effective way. But do not squeeze the cyst at will to avoid aggravating the inflammation.

If the cyst grows or is accompanied by obvious abnormalities such as nipple discharge with abnormal color, persistent local redness, swelling or pain, please go to a breast specialist in time for further diagnosis by the doctor through ultrasound examination, and decide whether puncture or other treatment methods are needed based on the diagnosis. Reasonable care and timely medical treatment are important guarantees for maintaining breastfeeding health.
