How to treat intracranial saccular aneurysm

How to treat intracranial saccular aneurysm

Treatment options for intracranial saccular aneurysms include medication, surgery, and interventional therapy. The specific choice depends on the size and location of the aneurysm and the patient's overall health.

1. Drug treatment is used to control symptoms and prevent complications. Commonly used drugs include calcium channel blockers such as nimodipine, which are used to prevent vasospasm; analgesics such as acetaminophen, which relieve headaches; and antihypertensive drugs such as amlodipine, which control blood pressure to reduce the risk of aneurysm rupture.

2. Surgical treatment is mainly for high-risk or ruptured aneurysms. Craniotomy and clipping block the blood supply to the aneurysm by placing a metal clip; vascular bypass surgery reconstructs the blood flow channel; and aneurysm wrapping uses biomaterials to wrap the aneurysm to strengthen its wall.

3. Interventional therapy is a minimally invasive method suitable for patients who are not suitable for craniotomy. Intravascular embolization uses a catheter to deliver embolic materials such as coils into the aneurysm to promote its occlusion; a blood flow guide device is implanted to guide blood flow around the aneurysm; and a covered stent is implanted to cover the aneurysm opening to isolate it from the blood flow.

Treatment of intracranial saccular aneurysms requires comprehensive consideration of the patient's individual circumstances, including age, health status, aneurysm characteristics, etc. It is critical to seek medical attention promptly and follow the doctor's treatment recommendations to reduce the risk of fatal aneurysm rupture.
