Is abdominal aortic aneurysm dangerous?

Is abdominal aortic aneurysm dangerous?

Abdominal aortic aneurysms have a high risk of rupture and require prompt medical attention and surgical treatment. Abdominal aortic aneurysms are localized dilations of the abdominal aorta wall. The danger is that rupture may cause massive bleeding and endanger life. Treatments include open surgery, endovascular repair, and drug therapy.

1 The danger of abdominal aortic aneurysm lies mainly in its risk of rupture. As the diameter of the aneurysm increases, the risk of rupture increases significantly. When the diameter of the aneurysm exceeds 5.5 cm, the risk of rupture rises sharply. After rupture, the patient may experience severe abdominal pain, hypotension or even shock, requiring emergency surgical intervention.

2 The causes of abdominal aortic aneurysm include atherosclerosis, hypertension, smoking, genetic factors, etc. Atherosclerosis causes the elasticity of the blood vessel wall to decrease, hypertension increases the pressure on the blood vessel wall, smoking accelerates blood vessel aging, and genetic factors may affect the structure of the blood vessel wall.

3Open surgery is the traditional treatment method, which repairs the aorta by removing the tumor and implanting an artificial blood vessel. This method is suitable for patients with large or complex tumors, but it is more traumatic and takes a long time to recover.

4 Endovascular repair is a minimally invasive surgery that uses a catheter to implant a stent into the tumor to isolate the pressure of blood flow on the tumor wall. This method is less invasive and has a quick recovery, and is suitable for patients with small tumors and regular shapes.

5 Drug treatment is mainly used to control hypertension and atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of tumor rupture. Commonly used drugs include antihypertensive drugs, statins and antiplatelet drugs. These drugs can help control blood pressure, lower blood lipids and prevent thrombosis.

The danger of abdominal aortic aneurysm cannot be ignored. Patients should undergo regular ultrasound or CT examinations to monitor changes in the size of the aneurysm. Once the aneurysm is found to be enlarged or symptoms appear, medical treatment should be sought in time and surgical treatment should be taken. Early detection and timely treatment can effectively reduce the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture and protect the patient's life safety.
