What foods should not be eaten for vasculitis

Patients with vasculitis should avoid high-salt, high-fat, and high-sugar foods, and reduce the intake of alcohol, spicy and allergic foods. These foods may aggravate the inflammatory response, increase the cardiovascular burden, or trigger allergies, which is not conducive to the control of the disease and healthy recovery.

1) Avoid high-salt foods

A high-salt diet can increase blood pressure and aggravate damage to the vascular endothelium, especially for patients with hypertension-related vasculitis. High-salt foods include pickled foods (such as pickles and bacon), processed foods (such as potato chips and ham), etc. In daily diet, daily salt intake should be controlled within 6 grams. Natural spices (such as onions and garlic) can be used to enhance the taste of food instead of salt.

2) Reduce the intake of high-fat and high-sugar foods

High-fat foods such as fatty meat, fried foods, and cream cakes will increase the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the blood, leading to the occurrence of arteriosclerosis, thereby increasing the burden of vasculitis. High-sugar foods (such as desserts and carbonated drinks) will stimulate the body to produce more inflammatory factors, which is not conducive to the regulation of the immune system. Patients with vasculitis should choose healthy cooking methods, such as steaming, boiling, and stewing, and increase the intake of vegetables and whole grains.

3) Avoid alcohol and limit spicy foods

Alcohol can directly irritate the blood vessel wall and affect the efficacy of drugs, making the condition more likely to recur or worsen. Spicy foods (such as chili peppers and pepper powder) may cause gastrointestinal irritation, indirectly affecting nutrient absorption and blood vessel recovery, and should be avoided as much as possible. The intake of stimulating drinks such as coffee should also be reduced.

4) Beware of foods that may cause allergies

Vasculitis may be related to abnormal immune system. Allergic foods (such as seafood, peanuts, and milk) may aggravate the immune system's overreaction and worsen symptoms. Under the recommendation of a doctor, it is recommended to do an allergen test and adjust your daily diet according to the results. Fresh and less seasoned ingredients are a safer choice.

Patients with vasculitis should strictly avoid high-salt, high-fat and allergic foods, and reduce the intake of alcohol and spicy drinks. While standardizing dietary management, it is recommended to see a doctor regularly for review, adjust the diet plan according to the development of the disease and obtain professional advice to better promote physical recovery. A healthy diet, coupled with adequate rest and proper exercise, can effectively improve the quality of life.
