What is neurovasculitis? Is it serious?

Neurovasculitis may have varying degrees of impact on health, and its severity depends on the extent of the lesions and the affected areas. It is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible for a clear diagnosis.

This disease is an autoimmune disease, mainly manifested by the body's immune system mistakenly attacking the blood vessel wall, causing vascular inflammation. Neurovasculitis is a specific manifestation of vasculitis involving the nervous system, which may be related to lesions in small or medium-sized blood vessels. Common symptoms include numbness, tingling, weakness in the limbs, and even affecting vital signs in severe cases.

If only peripheral nerves are involved, symptoms may be mainly local paresthesia or muscle dysfunction; when the central nervous system is involved, the situation may be much more complicated, including headaches, epileptic seizures, changes in mental status, etc. If not controlled in time, vascular blockage may cause lasting tissue damage or even irreversible neurological dysfunction.

The most important thing for treatment and management is to see a doctor as soon as possible, receive professional examinations such as blood tests, nerve conduction studies or imaging examinations, and take treatment measures quickly after the cause is determined. If confirmed, the doctor may recommend the use of immunosuppressants, hormone therapy or auxiliary treatment plans for symptoms. In daily life, factors such as excessive fatigue and infection that may induce or aggravate symptoms should be avoided.
