Clinical manifestations of mastitis during lactation

Treatment for lactation mastitis includes antibiotics, warm compresses and draining the milk. Common causes include milk stasis and bacterial infection. The main symptoms of lactation mastitis are redness, pain, fever and lumps in the breast, which need to be treated promptly to avoid worsening of the disease.

1. Breast redness, swelling and pain are typical symptoms of mastitis during lactation, usually caused by milk stasis. Milk stasis can lead to blockage of the milk ducts, increase local pressure and trigger an inflammatory response. Treatment methods include hot compresses and gentle massage to promote milk discharge and relieve local pressure.

2. Fever is a common symptom of mastitis, which is usually caused by bacterial infection. Bacteria enter the breast tissue through the nipple fissure and cause infection. Treatment requires the use of antibiotics, such as penicillins or cephalosporins, while keeping the breasts clean to avoid worsening of the infection.

3. Breast lumps are another important symptom of mastitis, caused by inflammation and edema of breast tissue. Lumps may lead to poor milk discharge, further aggravating symptoms. Treatment methods include frequent breastfeeding or using a breast pump to empty the milk and reduce milk duct blockage.

4. Nipple pain and cracks are early signs of mastitis, usually caused by improper breastfeeding posture or excessive sucking by the baby. Nipple cracks provide an entry point for bacterial infection and need to be treated promptly. It is recommended to use nipple protection cream and adjust the breastfeeding posture to avoid further damage to the nipple.

5. Systemic symptoms such as chills and fatigue may accompany mastitis, indicating that the infection may have spread. At this time, you need to seek medical attention in time, conduct blood routine and breast ultrasound examinations, assess the extent of infection, and be hospitalized if necessary.

Mastitis during lactation needs to be treated in time to avoid worsening of the condition. Hot compresses, emptying milk, and using antibiotics can effectively relieve symptoms and promote recovery. Keeping breasts clean, adjusting breastfeeding postures, and preventing nipple fissures are the keys to preventing mastitis.
