Can a breast cyst go away on its own?

Can a breast cyst go away on its own?

Breast cysts can disappear on their own in some cases, but the prerequisite is that the cysts are small and there are no obvious symptoms. If there are abnormal changes or persistent discomfort, you should seek medical attention in time.

Breast cysts refer to fluid cystic structures in the breast. Most of them are benign lesions and are related to fluctuations in estrogen levels in the body. They are common in women during the reproductive period and perimenopause. Some small cysts may shrink or even disappear with hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, while some larger cysts may persist.

If the cyst is large, it will cause breast tenderness or pressure, and you can feel a soft or slightly elastic lump when you touch it, but these lumps usually do not require special treatment. In daily life, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, such as reducing stress, eating a proper diet and keeping a regular schedule, can help reduce the chance of cyst recurrence. Regular breast self-examination can help detect changes as early as possible.

If you find that the cyst continues to grow, harden, or causes severe pain when touched, or is accompanied by abnormalities such as nipple secretion and skin dimpling, this may indicate the need for more detailed medical examination. It is recommended to go to the hospital for breast ultrasound or doctor's evaluation to determine the nature and decide on the treatment plan.
