Causes of Breast Cysts

Causes of Breast Cysts

The formation of breast cysts is often related to fluctuations in hormone levels in the body. It is usually a benign lesion with limited impact on health.

Breast cysts are small fluid-filled vesicles that appear in the breast, usually caused by blockage and expansion of the breast alveoli or ducts. This change is mainly related to the fluctuation of estrogen and progesterone in the body, especially during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy or around menopause. The unstable hormone levels may irritate the breast tissue. External factors such as eating habits, stress, and unhealthy lifestyles may also indirectly affect hormone secretion and increase the risk of breast cysts.

Breast cysts are generally round or oval, soft or slightly hard, and may vary in size. Many people can find a lump in their breasts that is similar to a "small water bag" by touching it, but it is usually movable and painless. If the cyst is large or presses on the surrounding tissue, it may cause distension or periodic discomfort. Some cysts may contain milky white or dark liquid, but this does not mean that it is a precursor to malignant lesions, but only represents the state of the material in the cyst.

In order to reduce the discomfort caused by cysts, it is recommended to maintain a regular schedule and a balanced diet, eat more foods rich in dietary fiber, and moderately limit the intake of high-fat and high-sugar foods. In addition, regular breast examinations can help identify changes in cysts early. When a cyst suddenly increases in size, is accompanied by tenderness or hardening, you should go to the hospital in time for further evaluation and treatment.
