Principles of dressing change after perianal abscess surgery

After perianal abscess surgery, dressing change is a vital part of the healing process, which plays a key role in preventing infection and promoting wound healing. Postoperative dressing change needs to follow aseptic operation to ensure wound cleanliness and reduce the risk of infection.

Perianal abscesses are usually localized purulent infections caused by bacterial infection, so surgical drainage is required for radical treatment. This surgery usually involves incision and drainage to allow the accumulated pus to flow out. Although surgery can solve the abscess problem, postoperative care, especially dressing changes, is the key to recovery. The wound after abscess surgery often cannot be sutured in order to continue to drain the residual inflammatory secretions.

During the dressing change process, the first thing to do is to keep the wound clean and dry. Using sterile saline or medical disinfectant to clean the secretions around the wound is a good choice, which can effectively reduce the chance of bacterial reproduction. When cleaning the wound, the movements must be gentle to avoid irritating the wound, aggravating the pain or causing new infection. At the same time, the changed dressing should be properly fixed so that it is not easy to fall off when the patient moves, affecting the healing of the wound. Attention should also be paid to diet, and more high-fiber foods should be consumed to keep the bowel movements smooth and reduce the pressure on the wound during defecation.

Patients are advised to strictly follow the doctor's instructions for dressing changes after surgery. If the wound is found to be abnormal, bleeding continues, or the pain worsens, seek medical attention immediately. Depending on the patient's condition, the frequency of dressing changes can be adjusted according to the doctor's advice, and a personalized care plan can be formulated accordingly, so as to effectively promote wound healing and restore health as soon as possible.
