Can a breast cyst turn into cancer?

Breast cysts generally do not turn into cancer directly, but if you feel any discomfort or the cysts are significantly enlarged, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible for a clear diagnosis.

Breast cysts are fluid-filled cystic structures that appear in breast tissue. They are mainly affected by fluctuations in estrogen levels and are more common in women between 30 and 50 years old. They can appear as small lumps that are soft or hard to the touch, sometimes accompanied by pain or breast distension, but are usually benign. If they become larger or more painful, they may be caused by hormonal changes in the body or local inflammation.

The cyst itself is not a precancerous lesion and the probability of malignant transformation is low, but some cysts may be combined with breast hyperplasia or other abnormalities and require special attention. For example, when atypical cells appear in the cyst or the fluid is bloody, it may indicate a potential problem. Women with a family history of breast cancer need to pay more attention to regular screening of breast health. This type of screening includes breast ultrasound, mammography, and, if necessary, puncture biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is helpful for breast health, including controlling weight, avoiding staying up late for a long time, reducing high-fat diet, and consuming more fruits and vegetables rich in dietary fiber. Regular physical examinations are very important. If you find unexplained breast lumps or chest discomfort, please consult a professional doctor as soon as possible to avoid delaying treatment.
