What are the symptoms of breast nodules

Breast nodules are mostly benign, but if any abnormality is found, you should seek medical attention promptly.

Breast nodules are local "lumps" or "hard masses" that appear in breast tissue. They may be cystic or solid, and are mostly caused by hormone fluctuations, breast hyperplasia or other pathological changes. Women are particularly prone to breast pain or hardness before and after menstruation, which may be related to the cyclical changes in breast tissue and is within the physiological range. However, persistent nodules or accompanied by other abnormal symptoms may need to be taken seriously.

When you touch a breast nodule, you will feel a hard lump of varying sizes and shapes, which is like touching a few soybeans in tofu. In most cases, the nodule has a smooth surface, clear boundaries, and good mobility, which is usually a characteristic of benign nodules. However, if the nodule is hard, has blurred boundaries, is not easy to move, or even has symptoms such as breast pain, skin depression, and nipple discharge, you need to pay special attention. Nodules may also manifest as redness, swelling, and fever during acute attacks of mastitis or other inflammatory diseases.

Regular breast self-examination is the key to early detection of breast nodules. For example, you can touch the breast area with your fingers in a circle while bathing to feel if there are any abnormal lumps. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, such as a balanced diet, regular work and rest, and moderate exercise, can help regulate hormone levels in the body and relieve breast discomfort. After discovering a nodule, a breast ultrasound or mammography examination can provide a reliable basis for evaluation. If necessary, follow the doctor's advice for further treatment and follow-up management.
