How are breast cysts formed and how are they treated?

The formation of breast cysts is related to the fluid retained after the blockage of mammary alveoli or small mammary ducts. It is usually a benign lesion and there is no need to worry too much.

The formation mechanism of breast cysts mainly involves factors such as fluctuations in estrogen levels, narrowing or blockage of breast ducts, and local tissue hyperplasia or degenerative changes. It is common in women between 30 and 50 years old, especially in the stage of hormonal changes. Chronic stress and bad living habits may also induce or aggravate the occurrence of breast cysts.

Small cysts generally have no obvious symptoms and can only be found through physical examination or ultrasound; when they are slightly larger, you may feel uneven softness or hardness or active "lumps" in the breast. When the cyst is large or accompanied by hormone fluctuations, cyclical breast pain may worsen, but this pain usually subsides with the end of the menstrual period. Breast cysts rarely become malignant, but you need to be alert to abnormal morphology, rapid enlargement, or nipple discharge.

Benign breast cysts usually do not require treatment, and discomfort can be relieved by dietary adjustments or hot compresses. Some small measures, such as reducing caffeine intake and eating more foods rich in dietary fiber, can help balance metabolism. If the cyst is large, painful, or has other suspicious symptoms, it is recommended to have an examination or suction treatment if necessary, which needs to be determined by a breast specialist after evaluation.
