How to check patients with gallstones

Patients with gallstones should undergo professional medical examinations to confirm and evaluate their condition, commonly used methods include ultrasound and CT scans. These examinations can help doctors understand the presence, size, number of gallstones, and the impact on surrounding organs.

Gallstones are hard masses that form in the gallbladder, usually formed by the deposition of cholesterol, calcium and other substances in bile. The formation of gallstones may be related to factors such as eating habits, abnormal cholesterol metabolism and being overweight. Most patients may not have obvious symptoms, but some may experience discomfort such as biliary colic due to gallstones.

Ultrasound is the most common method for detecting gallstones because it is safe, noninvasive, and can accurately show the gallbladder and its surroundings. If ultrasound is not clear enough, especially if complications are suspected, your doctor may recommend a CT scan or MRI. Blood tests may also be done to evaluate liver function and rule out other related problems.

For patients diagnosed with gallstones, it is recommended to closely monitor their symptoms. If persistent pain in the right upper abdomen, jaundice or fever occurs, contact your doctor in time. Maintaining a healthy diet, consuming more fiber-rich foods, and controlling cholesterol intake can help reduce the risk of gallstone formation. If the stones cause serious symptoms or complications, the doctor may recommend surgery. It is important to consult a professional medical staff for any discomfort or questions to obtain appropriate advice and treatment options.
